Neoclones?

Post by pom »

Neoclones are sites mean to mimic the old era of Neopets. the 1999-2007 version! The layouts are the 1.0 layout and the features and mechanics are from that era and the pets all have the pre conversion art (along with some cute custom colors the teams of these sites make). If anyone is a MMORPG player, it's the same concept as private servers. They usually have smaller and more tight knit communities and along with custom colors, most of them have custom items, pets, petpets, stamps, plots etc.

The 5 big ones are grundos.cafe, neopetsclassic, moderneopets, virtu.pet, and leopets

Personally imo, Grundo's is the best of the clones. It has really well thought out custom features that do not feel out of place on the site and it has the most robust and up to date html/css editor of them all (even surpassing retail neos) where you can do things like custom fonts and scrollbars and modern css stuff like flexbox etc. It also has a really balanced economy.

I have Grundo's referal codes for anyone that wants to sign up!

Are you guys playing any clones (lets be neofriends!) which one is your fave? and do you have any goals you're working towards?

Not gonna lie, it is quite tempting to think about Grundo's Cafe for myself. I don't really feel excited to play the actual Neopets, so maybe a Neoclone may be exciting.

Do these games require lots of commitment and time? I'm asking mainly cause I've been busy on and off revamping my webpage, and I'm not exactly sure on how actually playing the game feels like (I was mainly there for the flash games back in the day), so any explanations will be greatly appreciated ^^

I'll consider joining it, just need to be sure on how things work! :)

grundo's cafe is the only neoclone i've tried, but i love it~ (▰˘◡˘▰) i use it a lot more than retail neopets now bc i just find it a lot less overwhelming, and easier to use. the interface is really clean and nice, and just more thoughtful when it comes to actually understanding how the users are interacting with the page. it feels like they're consistently coming out with more and more nice little quality of life updates, which i appreciate! i love the sidebar, and how easy it is to customize your experience / reduce clutter. it's also just a lot faster and idk i have only good things to say lol.

i've mostly been working on making my pets cute...and getting more pets lol. so pretty much i try and get as many relics as i can so i can buy pet tokens & alt color tokens. i guess the biggest goal i have is to get either a draik morphing potion (preferable) or an egg, because i have one pet i want to change into a draik (she has a dragon name, this was planned from her birth lol)

i also have some morphing potions i'm waiting to use, because i can't decide which pet i should use them on / if i should adopt a new one, lol (botanical meerca & baby korbat)

ummm other stuff, i've been training one of my pets also, but i don't know if i have any specific goals for her haha. i haven't spent much time actually trying to do much battling and don't really know anything about what items are good etc. it's sort of lower priority i guess. i just like seeing their stats high :D AND i would like to update my profile and make it cute soon!!

ANYWAY i have a referral code as well if anyone is interested. i think i get a new one every 15 days, so happy to share. my username on grundo's is usagi feel free to add me!!

I know what you mean, retail neo is in a weird state, they just changed ownership and half the site is converted on the old layout and since the death of flash, a lot of features take some effort to get to work with extensions and stuff.

As far as commitment, they really don't, you can come and go as you please and it's very chill. I play 3 out of those 5 and I only really dedicate myself to one (grundos) but the others are there ready for me to pick up where I left off whenever I do decide to play. Grundos has a lot of games working since they are remade on HTML5 and not flash and the cool thing is, is if you get up to a certain score per play, which isnt hard to do, you get a rare item like a codestone, nerkmid or negg.

Let me know if you decide to join, I'll send you a code :3

imo grundo's doesn't require a ton. i get busy and completely forget about it for weeks and it's totally fine. there are sometimes events or other voluntary things you can do that require you to log in once a day to do some trivial kind of task, but they're all optional. honestly one of the things i like about grundos is that i feel less like i need to keep up with ongoing events and stuff like on neopets, which i am just chronically behind lmao. it feels more like you can set your own pace, and play as much or as little as you want.

Yes, the quality of life changes cannot be understated! Like the autobuy feature on trades, being able to reorder your pets on the lookup, the various customizations you can make to the sites layout itself to quickly access the links you need, the ability to fish with all pets etc. There is just too many to list and it's amazing! It's so fun to be able to have all your dream pets too! Draiks used to be near impossible to get back in the day. I cant wait to see her final form >:) Defenders of Neopia being back and working also makes the BD more fun and worth it because I too am a number go up enjoyer, also i think Grundo has improved BD prizes compared to retail neo!!

Yeah... honestly, what I find scary about retail Neo is that it feels so competitive xD The economy is still quite crazy, and there are events going on all the time. If Grundo's is a chiller alternative, I could vibe with it myself :) It's even cooler that their games are on HTML5! I might be able to relive some of my childhood-

I think I may join, actually! Feel free to send me the code in my forum DM! I always wanted to go back to Neopets, and this seems to be my chance to do so! I'm also hoping it's safer than how retail Neo used to be haha

Honestly, this is already an awesome thing imo- to just be able to chill, do things at your own pace and have fun! I already tend to hop on and off from a bunch of games, and it's very fun to have freedom on how I go about them!

I feel hopping back into Neopets will be a fun experience, we'll see! x]

I’m currently spending some nice time playing through Grundo’s Cafe, and now that I think about it, my main goal is to just find some cool paintbrushes and petpets to my creechurs! :)

Maybe another thing is customizing my user lookup and pet pages, cause it would be super cool if I could figure out how to change it x]
