hey guys, im sure many of us loved flashgames growing up (and even now!) so i thought we could share our faves here.
motorcity battle for detroit: a very bare platformer that i loved mostly becuz i just loved the cartoon.
my sweet 16: honestly the choices werent amazing but this mildly scary artstyle is so nostalgic plus you could be a cowgirl, a princess, a witch etc. im not american so i didnt really kno what a sweet 16 was but it sounded cool and fun.
panypang: the chinese sites i used like 4399 had a lot of korean games and i was obsessed with panypang's world.
avatar u: omg im so glad this game was saved by flashpoint because i was looking for it forever since it got taken off of teennick! it used to be linked to nick's main site from quizilla. its like sims but only in uni and with like 1/5 of the game play but you could make the students bi or gay which made me lose my marbles. i would usually have one token straight dont worry.
myscene room makeover: i really liked everything myscene, saw the films, played all the games but didnt have the dolls. the flat artstyle with pastel colours just ignited something inside my brain.
ocean fashion dress up: sheepi had a few other games and i was just so in love with their art. i played this a lot on dolldivine like many other dress up games but i dont go there now because they have games with AI generated content.
fireboy and watergirl: there's been no other like it. nothing like squeezing onto a chair with a bestie and trying to get thru as many levels as you can because your mum would def close the tab after you left for school the next day.
haunt the house: we were evil children because we would try to kill as many people as possible in the house instead of scaring off as many people as possible. this game was so cute despite all the gruesome death.
fairy freya: very few options in this dress up game but i think it still shines to the beautiful and unique style. the aesthetic of this game follows me thru my life.
WondLa spot the difference game: honestly this was a super basic spot the difference game but i was a huge WondLa fan. I love the story, the art, the characters. It's just so damn good. Why is children's sci fi less of a thing?
hula bunny genie dress up: does anyone remember this weird sexy rabbit?
hipster dress up: yes... i thought i was gonna be a hipster... but it was 2012 ok??? i still dig irmirx tho and followed them on deviantart for years. i used this as a defacto character maker for a long while so it has the history for me too.

HAUNT THE HOUSE!!! I've been thinking of that game from time to time! I loved killing the guests too it was so much fun and the methods of scaring guests were so creative. Now I might play it after I write this up! Fireboy and Watergirl is such a classic. I don't think I ever made it through the entire game though.
I've been reminiscing about Flash Games as of late, funny you bring it up. During elementary I loved Hoshi Saga. It's a game that consisted of a series of mini-games, all which required you to find the star hidden somewhere. There were two sequels to this game when I played but now I think there's several more. Unfortunately all of them when run with those Flash emulator things have some glitches in them now so I can't complete the games fully.
I also loved Run! Every year or so I like to play it and it's still so fun.
When I was even younger, I really liked Hannah Montana and used a website called MileyCyrusGames.net. The site is miraculously still up but you'll need to access the Wayback Machine to retrieve the .swf files to play. It hosted a bunch of flash games, but the vast majority of them were very simple dress up games. Most of the designs for Miley's face are kind of freaky. One game even had you dress her up as both an adult and a child. I couldn't care less as a child but I feel very uncomfortable about that now.
Unrelated tangent below:

spoiler!
I also remember a website that was something like "ABC Games" but the games on it were not educational in that sense. One of them was actually a dating sim! The artstyle was anime-esque but super basic and amateurish. Like most flash dating sims (as it seems), you had a bunch of boys to try and woo before the school festival at the end of 30 days. You get a set amount of HP per day and you use up a little HP every time you talk to a boy. God I really wish I could find this game but I've checked multiple variations of the "abcgames / abc-games" domain on the Wayback Machine and I just CANNOT find it. It's 100% a case of "I'll know it when I see it" because I played it in 2013-2014 and I remember the logo clear as day. I don't even know the name of the dating sim to find that one specifically. Sigh.

yes! the more people youre freaking out the scarier the spooks got! Hoshi Game sounds kind of familiar. I loved Sugar Sugar which was also level based where you had to draw lines to move sugar. have you tried running the game via flashpoint? ive been bringing it up so much it feels like im shilling it lol. just excited tho...
the celeb dress ups were really so uncanny! its the worst when youre so close to figuring out a memory enough to find something but cant quite get there. i hope you'll be able to find the abc site... will be awaiting your article haha!

Omg Sugar Sugar! I loved Bart Bonte's games so much, I remember going to his website and playing as many games from there as I could. I haven't tried flashpoint! I tried playing Haunt the House, Hoshi Saga and Run via Waflash and those ones were super glitchy. The Miley games I ran via Ruffle which worked perfectly. Looking at the website it seems flashpoint has limited Linux support but I might try downloading it anyway. Maybe if I look in the database really hard I'll find that dating sim...
EDIT: OMG I FOUND IT!!! It's called "Festival Days Sim Date" on the Flashpoint database. The art is far more amateurish than I expected but I'm sure it's the one. I'm gonna play later today!!!

ah, so much nostalgia from this thread already! besides fireboy and watergirl & run that have already been mentioned, i’d also like to add bloxorz and cubefield.
and yeah, mima, i remember playing the festival days dating sim, also, on deviantart! along with interactive buddy and, uh, this series (where you “pet” anime characters).
i also spent a lot of my childhood playing flash mario games, like super mario 63 and the horrible peta propaganda series, the super chick sisters. aah, the memories…

I remember bloxorz too celeste! I take it you used coolmathgames too? Everyone in my class loved the Papa's series (Papa's Pizzeria and co) but I was horrible at multi-tasking so I didn't enjoy it much. Oh, and the boys in my class loved Happy Wheels but it was too gruesome for me.
Who wouldn't want to pet anime characters??

yeah, coolmath; i think it was the only thing unblocked on school computers, lol. i’ve never played papa’s pizzeria, though. oh, yeah, happy wheels! i remember watching let’s plays of it back in the day, but i don’t think i actually ever tried it. i did like playing some motorbiking game on miniclip, though — sort of a similar genre but less gorey.mima wrote: ↑Fri Sep 20, 2024 1:57 am I remember bloxorz too celeste!
