hey guys im pretty bad at keeping track but it feels like we havent had an anime thread yet. in case we did lets just pretend that we didnt lol.....

what's everyone watching? what are your faves?

recently i started to watch anime seasonally, but only one anime per season. for a while i was really put off new stuff, I think after I tried watching Deaimon and was super bored. but then i watched Bucchigiri!?! this year and was so shocked that literally EVERYBODY hates it. I thought it was so awesome. Also finishing up the new Black Butler season, purely for the nostalgia. (self-incrimination below  ) this is what my bedroom looked like in 2014...

Image

for the summer I started Tasogare Out Focus which is very sweet but visually a bit of a letdown.
otherwise some of my faves are: ergo proxy, mob psycho 100, haikyuu, barakamon, samurai champloo, love com. and for manga i like anything yuhki kamatani or natsume ono have made. ive been also really wanting to get more into magical girl anime, I have seen a lot of but not all of Sailor Moon and a lot of Mermaid Melody but that was when i was a kid. If anyone has an recs, I will gladly check it out!

Yes, I was thinking in creating a similar thread but it may have slipped my mind

Now I am watching the new Code Geass anime, I liked the OP, really cool! But I am not liking the story so much. I also watched all Code Geass Akito's OVAs and I am starting to think that no Code Geass spin-off can be as good as the original (It's C.C. and Lelouch that make the series worth for me). But, I am liking the main couple of Sakuya and Ash (if they can be called the main couple ?), they're really cute and I am waiting the drama to unfold

And I am watching Carole & Tuesday, I am really liking this anime. I like how it's different from generic generic (either moe or isekai) and how it looks like the story was set in the early 2000s. In the last episode that I watched they had a American Idol parody complete with terrible singers and the judges horrified of them lol

I don't watch anime that is airing because I like to wait to people judge if it's good or trash, unless it's an adaptation of a manga or game that I already know.

This Kuroshitsuji! Agh! I am pissed with Yana Toboso after what she did in the manga.
spoiler!
That Ciel's twin brother, and the fact the Ciel isn't Ciel but an impostor, wtf! Then the original Ciel came back as a zombie and no one suspected anything?? And she ruined Undertaker that was one of my favourite characters
It took me awhile to reach this arc in the manga because I lost the interest in read the series at some point, then I was too lazy to reread everything (I stopped right before this new anime arc).

I was watching the anime (I actually really liked this arc) but I made the mistake to continue reading the manga that was on hold (I stopped in the Hospital arc with Bard and Lau), but then I also got irritated with what she did in the manga, again. And I got so annoyed that I dropped the anime.
spoiler!
She literally ruined Doll, also one of my favourite characters, turning her into a zombie and she killed Snake, wtf! :vmad:
I think that the author never fails to disappoint me, and I am only reading the manga because I want to know wth happened to Ciel and who killed his family and burned his house but I think that she'll only show this in the last chapter.

I rarely watch anime these days but my favourite anime of all time has got to be Violet Evergarden. It's been a while since I've watched it though and I'm planning on rewatching it this year.

Tangentially related but has anyone watched the live-action One Piece adaptation? I was going in fully expecting it to be bad but it was actually quite decent! My friend who has watched the entire anime, on the other hand, couldn't watch after the first episode.

sadly its pretty common for the sequel to never surpass the OG  I cant think of many examples... yes, Im also so over moe and isekai... i never liked it lol but its so saturated rn! tbh the only isekai i enjoyed enough to actually watch fully was Visions of Escaflowne. lol Carole and Tuesday I should watch, its been on my radar for a while!

ah it looks gorgeous! I need to see it. I haven't seen any One Piece anything but one of my friends who isnt a huge fan said the live action was actually good. Guess if youre a hardcore fan it wont be tho haha! Like, I couldnt watch even an episode of the new Avatar live action. Every second was painful...

Weeb thread let's go! Does anyone else think you've watched a lot of anime, but also have seen nothing at the same time?! I'm addicted to stacks on MAL. I'm casually watching Healin' Good PreCure and the first season of Shugo Chara (I've read the whole manga). I've also really enjoyed Dead Dead Demons Dededede Destruction so far.

I actually just finished watching the first season of Silver Spoon! it was on my list for a while and it's very comfy and quick! (the subs on Animelon work perfectly too hehe) :D You have some good favs, and I've been wanting to rewatch Kuroshitsuji / Black Butler for a while and watch the new season! I might do that this weekend if I'm not too busy!

What kind of magical anime do you like? Are you okay with dark and edgy takes? Are you okay with kids shows? Here's some recs!
Image

  • I recommend Heartcatch PreCure a lot! You may recognize the character designer, Yoshihiko Umakoshi, from his work on Ojamo Doremi and My Hero Academia. It's a kids show, but it's THE fan favorite of the PreCure franchise. Heartcatch is also considered one of the darkest seasons of PreCure by fans. So you have a nice episode of the week show with good character designs and some dark themes without being too edgy at all.
The light novel is fantastic and even EDGER lol, but there's not an English translation I don't think
Image
  • Wonderful PreCure is the currently airing season this year. Every Sunday there's a new episode, so check it out! I'm still freaking out over the midseason cure situation :barf:
Image
  • The rest of PreCure. I really like Tropical-Rouge and Smile
  • Cardcaptor Sakura is probably my favorite magical girl show overall
Image
  • Revolutionary Girl Utena + the movie
  • Ojamajo Doremi
  • Madoka Magica
  • Obviously 90s Sailor Moon and Crystal
  • Searching for the Full Moon
  • Shugo Chara (Joker Jewel, the sequel, JUST came out!)
  • Magic Knight Rayearth (new anime is coming out!)
Not really a magical show but
  • The Rose of Versailles (new movie is coming out!)
These are kind of basic recommendations, so apologizes if you wanted something more in-depth. I'm still trying to get my PhD in Shojo studies as well, so I'm still trying to watch all the classics... I haven't seen Princess Tutu yet AAA

Violet Evergarden is beautiful! My older family members really liked the One Piece adaptation. I also liked it as well! I think it's good for both fans and non-fans. (I've seen and read a LOT of One Piece, but I'm not caught up lol)

Hmm I might check out the new Code Geass anime now that I remembered about it lol. I kinda laughed through the OG seasons while watching it. I ship Lelouch and Suzaku for fun lol. They remind me so much of the main "pairing" from X in some illustrations. Oh, CLAMP :uwu: Carole and Tuesday is on my list as well! I like the different art style

waaah!! this is the holy grail of recs, thank you much!! I totally forgot about Ojamajo even tho I had so many little figurines of them when I was a kid. I will slowly make my way thru it <3 I think I will check out Hearthcatch Precure first and get back to you. it looks like youre gonna get your PhD soon, doc!!

I'm sure Amy's thesis for PhD Shoujo studies will be accepted

I tried watching the live action ATLA too since I'm a big fan of the show. I personally also didn't find it awful but I only reached halfway before losing interest. I didn't like that they changed certain aspects of Sokka's character and also toned-down the series a little in terms of theme exploration. No one can beat the cartoon.

Edit to add: I've only seen the One Piece anime right up until the live-action adaptation ends! So I luckily had a reference point for how good it was.

I get this feeling because I've watched so many stuff that I can't seem to remember all of them. I used to remember everything that I've have watched by memory but now I have to keep track on everything on anilist or I'll forget

I used myanimelist before but I've changed to anilist because they didn't accepted Korean webtoons in their site unless it was published by a "reputable" company and "Naver did not count because it was Search engine" (or something like that). So now that I am using anilist they are allowing webtoons and implemented this stack system. And now, I use both sites because I found out anilist doesn't allow recap anime in their site

This anime I've watched has the same character design artist as Carole and Tuesday, if you liked their art style. It's a short anime (each episode is only 3 minutes) and it's mostly a picture drama than a anime. The story is just 4 couples (told by the girl's perspective) in their everyday life, but I think it was really sweet :uwu: Also it's a shoujo, so perhaps you might like it.
