Day 1: I cheated a bit and decided to do the second prompt instead of the first. No matter what I was sketching I couldn't get a screenshot redraw to come out to my satisfaction so I decided I'd come back to it later. This is a character from a web comic Ive been working on for a while called Aidan Katz and is the most tsundere-ish that I've got. I'm trying a faster and simpler style in general but I'm not sure how good it's looking atm... really leaning into the emo of it all.
How's everyone else feeling?
what a cutie! love the expression. i like this style, it's expressive! how much time do you end up saving with this style over your usual?
my day one: favorite oc! i was going to try and do a completely rendered piece but i'm already tired (T_T) so i figured i would do some detailed sketching and come back at a later date and finish it. i like the composition i came up with but i think it looks a lil funky otherwise but i will not stress over making it perfect rn. at least i got some drawing done!! :'D i've been in such a funk lately with art, i'm happy i got some doodling in.

spoiler!
waah!! your piece looks awesome! honestly not fully rendered works are a style of their own, i like it a lot. the composition is great!!
thank u much, yeah it cuts the time down in about half for me haha.

He is very tsundere looking! Adam kinda reminds me of characters from older sitcoms, style-wise!! I'm not a big sitcom person myself, but it does look like 90s/00s styled stuff. OH you know what he reminds me of?? He looks like a character from Buffy the Vampire slayer! That kinda style, you know??
I love the checkered border and the box-y (?) linework on the pants!! I also like the grain like Mima pointed out. You did a really good job as always!!
AAAAAA the way you draw faces is so so so good! It's a good mix of realistic and anime! That's hard to pull off sometimes without looking uncanny... your art style is GOATed!
Here's my art I drew yesterday. It's Applejack!! I think I will study how my role model draws hair next along with continuing to practice faces!

thank u v much mima! ow the edge lolol! i use krita's default noise filter with some blur, tbh usually it does not look great but it seems ok this time. if krita fixed their fonts and filters it would honestly be better than photoshop AND free!!

i realized the secret formula for the tsundere look is angy+blush, easy peasy lmao. tbh there are so many sitcoms that are kind of mid but have fun costume or set design. i only watched one season of buffy but for sure you are right! thank u v much amy!!

its so cute!! and super recognizable, i knew who it was straight away haha! the way you draw hair and skin is so gorgeous, i love it who is your rolde model if its not a secret? i think my all time fave is natsume ono

thank you!! <3 that is a huge amount of time cut..i probably should try and simplify some of my process too, im a slow drawer! if you don't mind me asking, what are the shortcuts you learned to take? or is it something you're still ironing out?

thank you!!! my favorite styles mix the two so it's something i attempt to emulate haha.

Of course!! Thank you! My role model is @hebiichigod / whoru. Linked is the Xitter, but some artwork can be suggestive.... so here's some examples of art I really like! Look at that beautiful traditional coloring and shading! X, X, X, X Pixiv is here! (EDIT: hnnng why can't I draw this well , whyyyyyyyy)
Btw, I would also love to know your timesaving tips!!

Day 2: Skipping a day ahead again today's prompt was oversized prop. I decided to draw Kai, who is the arch nemesis/later friend of the character I posted yesterday and he loves apples. Decided to simplify things a little becuz even tho i loved the emo frame/border it kind of was too much work lol. really focusing on the lines.
to amy and lapin, i don't really have any groundbreaking advice tbh sorry haha but if i had to tell u what i changed to do this more graphic style faster it would include:
1. decide early on where the very thick lines will be. there should be some thickness difference thru out but it shouldn't be too crazy different with some very skinny lines and super thick lines close together. figure it out in the sketch before the line art.
2. if we r really keeping it simple give dimension and shadow with the line art and not actual colors, i think it gives it a cool look. saves time too lol.
3. obviously be mirroring that shit every five seconds LOL
4. this one is a little weird but dont hesitate to fix something even when u r close to being done. maybe its just a me problem but i will be like almost done when i finally see an anatomy or composition problem. still, better adjust it even if its done scrapily and then worked over!
5. and like amy is doing i also use an existing work i like to use as a guide. often just to answer simple questions: how did this artist do the hands? how did they do the folds in the clothes etc? often its much faster to just get the answer from looking than to trial and error your own way. just one piece which you are trying to invoke in ur art usually does the trick!
6. fuck it we ball
tbh im not really good and i dont think these tips are super helpful but if u r looking for some strong lineart it may help haha

sadly i dont think i have any actual useful info for your more intricate style lol... sorry however when i did more rendered works i would always get lazy and some parts of the painting would turn out weaker than others. in that case i would sometimes try to give it more blockier but distinctive shapes (kind of like in oil paintings or concept art). pretty wide and maybe not super blended parts that still create the illusion of depth but with less detail. like how this character face's by Moby Francke has quite a bit of detail but his fingers do not, like a lighting trick i guess:
but maybe if you prefer to have a painting with the same detail thru out this may not be useful LOL

wahh! those are some excellent works with ink! the detail is pretty af!! you are actually pretty well on your way to a similar style and level i think. you have your own finish tho which is very neat.
i left some tips in my day 2 post but i think they are not that good LOL
