Cartoons we used to watch as a kid

Post by Ame »

After seeing the other nostalgic threads, I've decided to create this one. Which were the cute and/or weird cartoons that you use to watch as a kid? (American cartoons, anime and other countries cartoons). As I kid we had cable TV so I'd watch a lot of Cartoon Network, Fox kids (later rebranded as Jetix) and Nickelodeon (sometimes Boomerang but I didn't like it as much), but I'd also watch normal TV and all the TV channels in my country at the time pretty much had the mornings for kids so the would exbibit cartoons and other kids shows (now the major channels replaced them with boring shows for housewives :().

Here's my list:

spoiler!
The cutest cartoons:

Image
Little Lulu just a cartoon about kids doing kids stuff lol my mom used to watch it as a kid.

Image
Sagwa a cartoon about a cat in Ancient China, that aired on TV at 7 am, it is based of a picture book (the illustrations on the book are gorgeous).

Image
Angelina Ballerina, this one was really cute about a world with mouse people and the protagonist would dance ballet (also based off a picture book, it has a whole series with 10~15 books or something, I read all of them too lol).

Image
The Triplets, when I watched it as a kid I wish I could have been a triplet too (I knew that I couldn't be, but, I would imagine )

Image
Madeline, a cartoon about a group of girls living in a orphanage, I didn't watch it as much so I don't remember much (also a series of picture books and I also read all of them lol).

Image
An anime but it still counts, I don't remember if I knew about hamsters before watch Hamtaro or if Hamtaro introduce me to hamsters, but either way I had a ton of hamsters as kids and named two of them of Hamtaro and Fofucho (Kōshi-kun).

The weird cartoons:

Image
Rocko's Modern Life, I would watch this whenever it was airing but there was one episode that grossed me out then I stopped watching :barf:

Image
I liked Johnny Bravo, but there were some weird episodes that were parodies of The Twilight Zone, that would creep me out, but I'd watch them anyway lol I remember an episode where there was a old guy trying to drink water from a water fountain behind a door, and Johnny would continuously open the door, hitting the old guy. I got really annoyed with this episode because I felt sorry of the guy :x but I can't remember the episode's name.

Image
Catdog, this cartoon would gross me out, I didn't like it much lol

Image
Cow and Chicken was one of the weirdest cartoons I've ever watched, but I liked (except the Boneless chicken, he would gross me out lol).

Image
Sheep in the Big City was one of my favourites, but I think that it aired between episodes on CN so I couldn't know where it was airing.

Image
Ed, Edd and Eddy, sometimes I would like the episodes and sometimes I would get grossed by them lol

These two were really weird, but not much as Cow and Chicken

Image
Another cartoon that would air between episodes on CN, in my country it was called "Um amigo de um amigo de um amigo meu" (A friend of a friend of a friend of mine) because it would begin of the narrator saying that the story happened with a friend of a friend of a friend of his, I don't know if the original had this line or if it was added in the dub.

As I kid I was afraid of Courage, then one day I mustered courage to watch it (no pun indeed lol) and started watching regularly.

My favourite cartoons:

A tv channel aired this X men cartoon at 12pm every day (monday to friday) so I watched it so much that I probably memorised the episodes lol

These two were really popular here.

As I kid I'd collect the Winx Club and WITCH magazines and I'd draw my own OCs that were a mix of TMM and Winx Club

I Liked Jimmy Neutron but I always thought that the CGI was really ugly. I remember that crossover between Jimmy Neutron and Fairly Oddparents

This is a great idea for a thread!!! :D
My most watched list (can't add pictures because mobile rn):
  • Spongebob
  • Tom and Jerry
  • Loony Tunes
  • Fairy OddParents
  • Jimmy Nuetron
  • Courage the Cowardly Dog
  • Chowder
  • Flapjack
  • Adventure Time
  • Total Drama Island

Seeing Static Shock, Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy, Martin Mystery, Totally Spies, KND, Fosters Home, My Gym Partner's a Monkey, and Jackie Chan make so so nostalgic!!!! I didn't watch Catdog that much, but I remember laughing about what would happen if they had to use the bathroom as a kid (sorry gross  :barf: ). I wasn't scared of Courage, but they really put some weird crap in that show :D

I think that it was because I was around 7-8 years old when I started watching Courage that I got scared by it. I remember that my mom (?) or someone older asked if I was scared of the cartoon so I wanted to prove that they were wrong and started watching even if I was scared, so I got used to it, but some episodes were really creepy. I especially hated the episode with the alien chicken.

Static Shock was so famous in my country lol In the 4th grade all the kids in my school were watching, and idk why but I said once in front of my friends that I didn't like it, but I'd watch it anyway, secretly lol

Omg I forgot about a few of these! I almost exclusively watched Nickelodeon as a kid, but I also watched Boomerang. I was super enamored with the 60s/70s as a kid, so I watched Boomerang out of interest in the past rather than the shows themselves lol. Spongebob was definitely my most watched show as a kid, & I still think it’s one of the funniest shows ever made. I also loved Fairy OddParents & Jimmy Neutron. I remember not even noticing how ugly and bad the animation looked for Jimmy Neutron since there wasn't really anything like it at the time, so weird thinking about it in hindsight. I remember rewatching the monster house movie too and also being stunned how bad it looked in the same way. I totally forgot about "My Dad the Rock Star" until seeing it in the your list - I never realized Gene Simmons was behind that show, that's so bizarre lol

Here’s some of my favorite cartoons from childhood that haven’t been mentioned already:
spoiler!
Chalk Zone!

My life as a teenage robot
Image
Making Fiends

I also remember watching these, but I don’t remember anything about these shows other them being really weird lol:
CatScratch

Aaahh!!! Real Monsters!
