I think Zutara is pretty awesome actually. I also like Mai/Ty Lee, when Ty Lee betrays Azula to save Mai omg my heart... Ofc Cabbage merchant x cabbage duh.
Hm, Toph and Sokka? I think Toph and Aang would be the better pairing outside of Katara/Aang, no? Mai x Ty Lee is a really cute pairing as well. Ty Lee is one of my favorite characters from that entire show. Yesss cabbage merchant x cabbage
mima wrote: โ†‘Fri Aug 09, 2024 9:51 pm Omg Zutara vs Kataang....   the wars that would go on in the fandom... I was only ever tangentially involved in the Tumblr fandom scene but by god were there rants to hand out. I've never been THAT into shipping and think people take it FAR too seriously. I am so out of date with modern-day fandom that I have to wonder if such wars still exist.

Anyway, yes I think Zutara had a lot of potential! I wouldn't have complained if they ended up together. But Kataang certainly works too. I agree with finny, Sokka/Suki works perfectly.

Has anyone also watched TLOK? I'm gonna give out a spicy take - I think Korrasami was forced and only made canon as fanservice. I might be biased though because I hate the enemies-to-lovers trope. The sequel comics were also just bad.
Dude yes, I've seen crazy rants on that particular ship war... I can only imagine what it was like while the show was airing. Ship wars are so dumb to me if people take them way too far. (I do think it's fun to banter with friends about ships though :D )

I also think both Zutara and Kataang work. I feel really sad imagining Aang being heartbroken, so I think fics that either leave him out or have a chapter of him getting a different love-interest. Sokka/Suki works 100% for me as well  I've also read some interesting "what-if" scenarios with him and another character everyone will know who I'm referencing ๐ŸŒ™๐ŸŸ

I haven't watched TLOK yet, but someone I'm close to really really really likes it... so it's just a matter of time. I'm heard about the Korrasami debacle. I can't give my thoughts yet as I haven't seen the show, but it sounds like that pairing would have been better as non-canon and more ambiguous in the show.

I sort of like it when pairings aren't canon. That way you and your friends can watch the show through the lens of your ship. And make essays arguing for subtext  It feels like a making up a conspiracy theory for fun except way more light-hearted  Sometimes the creators make a show, and the fans will pick it up from there. Just like how everyone ignores the official Uno rules :D

It's like 20 years old and I think largely forgotten but it was the first "yaoi" anime I ever came across. I only saw the first episode or two thanks to the dvd that came with the NewType magazine I occasionally picked up. I do have the whole thing now, but I wish I could find better quality than 480p.
I've been watching to rewatch that forever along with Junjou Romantica, Sekaiichi Hatsukoi, and Love Stage!! ๐Ÿท๐ŸŸ

I do remember being captivated by how pretty the animation was in the series! I haven't watched much in the way of newer anime though tbh. I've watched Sword Art Online but even that is getting fairly old, isn't it? ^^;

I never even finished the show in the first place, lol! Maybe I'll watch some tonight. I haven't heard of the other series you listed. o3o

Yes, I think Toph and Aang is cuter too but I remember Toph and Sokka being considered the better pick for Sokka but I was like... Suki is right there!!!   Ty Lee is great, I wish we got even more about her becuz her backstory was so interesting. I also totally agree about non-canon ships becuz I live for the slow burn!! I remember watching TLOK pretty early on and tbh yes it does not measure up to the OG but the haters hate it waaaaaay too hard.

omg i was maybe only 13 when SAO first aired but I remember when that was new... I dont think SAO invented it but every motherfucker was going around memeing "if you die in the game, you die in REAL LIFE" when it first came out. simpler times lol.

Oh they definitely didn't invent the concept; in fact a favorite anime of mine is .hack//SIGN (pronounced dot-hack-sign) and it predates SAO by quite a bit and did a very similar idea. And honestly it probably predates that, lol. (btw .hack//SIGN is awesome and has an INCREDIBLE soundtrack and I highly recommend it!!)

It's totally worth it. Was one of my first anime, or at least one of the first I really got into. I collected the first like three volumes when Walmart of all places was carrying it, and then they stopped carrying it and it was years before I managed to watch the end of it! I was pretty upset that they'd stopped carrying it because back then I didn't know where else I could go to find it.

Ok, that will be my next one. I am watching Heartcatch Precure right now on the suggestion of local shoujo professor Amy :D

I'm surprisingly watching almost nothing from Summer 2024 except for nigewaka which is alright but not completely the type of anime I'm into. I really really love The Fable from Spring 2024, it's super QUALITY at times  but the story is so entertaining and the two main characters are great. I'm not sure why I didn't give the new Kuroshitsuji season a watch, considering I was a HUGE fan when it first came out and me and my younger sister squealed over it on the regular...

AngelEyeSprings wrote: โ†‘Sat Aug 03, 2024 2:22 pm Weeb thread let's go! Does anyone else think you've watched a lot of anime, but also have seen nothing at the same time?!
Yes that's exactly how I feel!! For someone that's been watching anime seasonally since 2011 I only have 335 completed shows according to MAL... I guess I just had many periods where I didn't watch anything at all, especially around 2014-2018 I'd say, but still
AngelEyeSprings wrote: โ†‘Sat Aug 03, 2024 2:22 pm I've also really enjoyed Dead Dead Demons Dededede Destruction so far.
Dedede is one of my favourite manga... Despite Asano Inio kind of being a meme his manga really was a staple of my teenagehood and idk, he manages to capture my teenage self's feelings and vibes too well, which I'm not too proud to say considering he's now a staple among baby incels and abused mentally ill girl larpers LMAO . I started reading dedede as soon as it came out, and finished reading when I was about the same age as the characters (and right during the pandemic too) so it managed to mark my entrance into adulthood. The anime adaptation is surprisingly good for how condensed it is, although I'm yet to finish it. I really like how they translated his art style into the anime.
